Hate to have to do this, but we’re canceling a scheduled signing of my Apple Cup-rivalry book, “Too Good to Be Through,” which was going to feature former football coaches Mike Price, Dennis Erickson and Keith Gilbertson at Barnes and Noble at Northtown Mall Saturday in Spokane.

The city has lately been ravaged by fires, and KHQ-TV reported Wednesday morning that officials peg the number of structures destroyed at 640. Temperatures are forecast for the mid-90s the rest of the week, with winds expected to increase Friday and Saturday.

We had been trying to put together a neighborhood effort of donations trucked to Spokane to aid those affected by the fires. That could still happen, despite the book-event cancellation. In any case, I urge you to remember those impacted, and to check out media websites for agencies accepting donations.
